The 11/11 portal in 2026 falls on Wednesday, November 11. It has no official opening time and no astronomical event behind it. People who mark it usually pick 11:11 a.m. or 11:11 p.m. on their own clock, so it arrives at a different moment in every time zone. The idea is modern. It grew out of a 1992 New Age gathering and the habit of noticing 11:11 on digital clocks. This year the date sits two days after the Scorpio new moon and two days before Mercury turns direct, which is why your feed may be louder about it than usual.
Your feed says 11/11 is a portal, and you keep catching 11:11 on your phone. You want to know what is real, and whether the day is worth using.
This guide is for reflection and curiosity. No study has found that a date or a number pattern changes what happens to you. What a date can do is give you a reason to stop and choose something, and the last section shows one way to use that.
11/11/2026 at a glance
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Date | Wednesday, November 11, 2026 |
| Time | No official time. Most people use 11:11 a.m. or 11:11 p.m. local |
| Is it an astronomical event? | No. Nothing in the sky lines up because of the date |
| Moon | A thin waxing crescent, about 3 to 7 percent lit, in Sagittarius in Western astrology |
| Mercury | Retrograde, two days from turning direct on November 13 |
| Venus | Retrograde, turning direct at 00:27 UTC on November 14 (the evening of November 13 in the Americas) |
| Same day | Armistice Day and Remembrance Day, Veterans Day in the US, Independence Day in Poland, Singles' Day in China |
The Moon and planet positions come from our own calculation with the PyEphem library and match published almanac tables. The 11/11 date reads the same whether you write the month or the day first. A date like 9/10 does not, and that small fact helps 11/11 travel across countries.
Where the 11/11 idea came from
The portal is newer than most posts suggest.
- 1918. The armistice that ended fighting in the First World War took effect at 11 a.m. Paris time on November 11. "The eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month" became a fixed phrase. This is the oldest public meaning of the date, and it is about grief.
- 1919. On the first anniversary, King George V asked for a complete pause at 11 a.m. That became the two-minute silence still kept across the UK and the Commonwealth, as GOV.UK and the Imperial War Museums describe.
- 1992. The spiritual "doorway" begins here. A teacher who goes by the name Solara published 11:11: Inside the Doorway and organized ceremonies on January 11 and 12, 1992, at Giza in Egypt and Queenstown in New Zealand. Her own archive says the doorway opened then and that its later "gates" ran for years. The November 11 portal day borrows the name and the number.
- 1993. Students at Nanjing University started a joke holiday for single people on November 11, because the four ones look like four people standing alone. The university's own page tells the story.
- 2009. Alibaba ran a sale on that date, which grew into Double 11, often called the world's largest shopping day. Reuters has a short history.
- 2011. The date 11/11/11 drew couples to the altar. One Las Vegas chapel that usually married 20 to 30 couples a day had about 80 booked, CNN reported. Egypt also closed the Great Pyramid for a day after rumors of rituals timed for 11:11. Officials called it routine maintenance, and the site director said afterward that "everything is normal" (BBC News).
- 2010s to now. "Angel number" posts and short videos made 11:11 a sign to notice, and the yearly portal posts followed. Several of the 2026 portal pages we checked went up in October this year.
So the "ancient gateway" framing does not hold. The date's oldest meaning is a ceasefire. The portal idea is about 34 years old.
The date already belongs to other people
On November 11, millions of people are doing something else with the same numbers.
- Remembrance. In the UK and much of the Commonwealth, many people stop for two minutes at 11 a.m. The UK's Remembrance Sunday this year is November 8, and the silence is also kept on the 11th itself.
- Veterans Day is a federal holiday in the US. Poland marks its independence. Many families visit graves or memorials.
- Singles' Day in China is a shopping event first, a joke about being single second.
If you mark the portal at 11:11 a.m. in London, you are eleven minutes past a national silence. Many people who keep 11/11 simply join the silence first. It is a ready-made pause, and it costs nothing.
Is 11/11 just another day?
Astronomically, yes. Earth is at no special point in its orbit, and the Moon is a few days old, as it is every month. The number is a feature of the Gregorian calendar, which most of the world uses for civil dates. In the Hindu, Islamic, Hebrew and Chinese calendars, the same day carries a different date with no repeating ones.
On Reddit, the question comes up every year in almost these words. In a 2025 r/Manifestation thread, one person asks whether it is just another day. Replies split between "every day works" and a shrug about placebo. That split is a fair summary. The day has no power of its own. What it can have is the attention you bring to it.
Why you keep seeing 11:11
A 12-hour clock shows 11:11 for 2 of the 1,440 minutes in a day. That sounds rare. It is not, once you count how often you look.
| Clock glances a day (spread at random) | Chance of catching 11:11 on a given day | About how often |
|---|---|---|
| 20 | 2.7 percent | Once every five weeks |
| 40 | 5.4 percent | Once every two and a half weeks |
| 60 | 8.0 percent | Once every twelve days |
That is our own arithmetic, and real glances are not random. A phone checked at bedtime lands near 11 p.m. more often than a random minute would, which pushes the odds up for night owls. On a 24-hour clock the night-time match is 23:11, so half the sightings vanish.
Then memory does the rest. Linguist Arnold Zwicky named the frequency illusion in 2005: once you have noticed something, you think it happens "all the time". A newspaper reader had called the same effect the Baader-Meinhof phenomenon in 1994. You notice 11:11 because it looks like a pattern. You never notice 10:47. In a 2023 r/spirituality thread, a commenter named the effect outright. In another, someone points out that daily routines train us to check the clock at the same times.
None of this says the moment cannot feel meaningful to you. It says the meaning comes from you, not from the clock.
Why a made-up date can still help
Researchers at Wharton found what they called the fresh start effect (Dai, Milkman and Riis, 2014). Searches for "diet", gym visits and sign-ups for goal commitments all rose after "temporal landmarks", such as the start of a week, a month or a semester, a birthday, or a holiday. Their explanation is that landmarks open a new mental chapter, which makes past slips feel like they belong to an old one.
11/11 is a landmark by agreement. Nothing in nature makes it special, but a lot of people treat it as one, and that may be enough to give you the same nudge. A Monday works too. So does the first of December.
About placebo, since Reddit raises it. A 2010 trial at Harvard gave people with irritable bowel syndrome pills they were told were inert, and they still reported more relief than a no-pill group. That was one small study about symptoms, not about luck or fate, so do not read too much into it. The modest lesson is that a ritual you know is made up can still change how you feel and what you do next.

Some portal posts pair the two dates: let something go at the new moon, then start something on 11/11. That is a pleasant way to use the week, though it is a choice, not a rule. If you follow retrograde lore, you might write your plan on the 11th and start it on the 14th, once both planets have turned. If you do not, start it whenever the first chance comes.
One thing to do at 11:11
Skip the long wish list. Write one if-then line. Psychologists call it an implementation intention. A meta-analysis of 94 tests by Gollwitzer and Sheeran (2006) found that people who wrote "if this happens, then I will do that" reached their goals more often than people who only stated the goal. The average effect was medium to large.
- At 11:11, pick one thing you keep meaning to start. Make it small enough to do in ten minutes.
- Write it as "When ___, I will ___." The first blank is a moment that already happens in your week. The second is the action.
- Put the first "when" in your calendar. If it is the bus home on Thursday, set a reminder for Thursday.
- Check back on December 11. One month later, write down how many times you did it. Count it, do not grade it.
| A wish (invented examples) | The same thing as an if-then line |
|---|---|
| "I want more peace this winter." | "When I sit down with my first coffee, I will take five slow breaths before I open my phone." |
| "I want to fix things with my sister." | "When I finish work on Sunday, I will send her one message that asks about her week." |
| "I want to spend less." | "When I add something to an online basket, I will leave it there until the next morning." |
| "I want to feel more creative." | "When the kettle is on in the evening, I will write three lines in my notebook." |
These examples are made up to show the format. Use your own words. If you already keep notes, our psychic journal guide shows a simple way to log the month.
Sometimes the plan raises a bigger question you cannot answer alone. If you want an outside view on it, Maria writes personal readings around up to three questions, sent by email. If you need help phrasing them, our questions to ask a psychic page has starting points.
Common questions
When is the 11/11 portal in 2026?
Wednesday, November 11, 2026. There is no single worldwide moment. Most people mark 11:11 a.m. or 11:11 p.m. in their own time zone.
Is the 11/11 portal real?
There is no evidence that a date opens anything or changes events. The idea comes from a 1992 New Age ceremony and the habit of noticing 11:11 on clocks. Many people still find the date a useful prompt to pause and choose something.
Is 11/11 2026 on a new moon?
No. The new moon is on November 9 at 07:02 UTC. On November 11 the Moon is a thin waxing crescent, visible low in the west for a short time after sunset.
Are Mercury and Venus retrograde on 11/11 2026?
Yes, both are. Mercury turns direct on November 13 at 15:52 UTC. Venus turns direct at 00:27 UTC on November 14, which is still the evening of November 13 in the Americas. That is why some sites say both turn on the 13th.
Why do I keep seeing 11:11?
A clock shows it twice a day, and people check clocks dozens of times. Once you notice a pattern, you remember the hits and forget the misses. Linguists call this the frequency illusion.
Is 11/11 the same as Singles' Day?
They share a date. Singles' Day began as a joke holiday among Nanjing University students in 1993 and became China's biggest shopping day. It has no link to the spiritual portal.
